Replacement Sinclair ZX80 Plastic Case Rivets - 2017

This is a brand new set of plastic expansion rivets as used to hold the Sinclair ZX80 case together. 

The Sinclair ZX80 is one of the most iconic and collectable early home computers - released in 1980 by Sinclair Research Limited, the ZX80 had just 1K of RAM and ran using a Z80A processor.  Sold primarily in kit form, this was the first computer for under £100.

Unfortunately, the cases have become brittle over time, and quite often the parts which hold the two sections of the plastic case together are lost. The ZX80 is held together not with screws, but with these plastic push rivets - there are two white ones on each side of the machine, and one white rivet at the rear.  The black rivets then go through the keyboard on the top.

The set consists of:

5 x White plastic rivets

2 x Black plastic rivets

Ideal for cases where the rivets are broken, or missing (as normally happens if you open the case).

The pictures show the rivets in situ in a real Sinclair ZX80 (the computer is of course NOT included). 

Unfortunately, we have had problems sourcing the white riivets - we now include a close match, which are slightly more transparent, and have 4 legs instead of the original 2.  However, once in situ, they look fine against the ZX80 case.  The second photo shows an original rivet on the left and the replacement on the right.  The photo showing the two rivets in the ZX80 again shows the original rivet in situ (on the corner) and the replacement in situ behind the TV modulator.

The white rivets in this set also fit the Jupiter Ace computer which used very similar plastic rivets.

The black rivets in this set also fit the MicroAce (you need 5 black ones and 2 white ones)

We sometimes get asked about how to fit these, as the centre pin does not push down easily into the body of the rivet.

it is easier to snap off the centre pin and then reinsert it once the body is in the hole in the case (or dependent on your dexterity / strength in fingers), insert it slightly before pushing the body through the hole in the case.
