Atari 2600 BetaGamma Computing PureVideo 2600VEC Video Encoder Kit

This is the BetaGamma Computing PureVideo 2600VEC video encoder kit for the Atari 2600 and all of its variants, providing PAL or NTSC Composite Video (and line out audio) so that you can continue to use the Atari VCS 2600 with modern TVs.

The kit is designed for use with the 4 and 6 button Atari 2600VCS models, and the Atari 2600 Jr

One of the main issues facing vintage computers and games consoles, is the problem of tuning a modern TV into the RF output provided by the computer/console.  The signal is often too weak for the TV to automatically tune into (and many modern TVs do not have a manual tuning option).

For this reason, many retro computers and games consoles are being adapted to provide composite video out, which can then be connected to the TV's own SCART socket, or a set of composite video (and audio) sockets.

The kit comes supplied with:

• r5.2 Encoder Module (PCB)
• 1 x 3.5mm low profile stereo socket for mounting on your Atari 2600 games console
• 1 x 11” length of quality 2 core screened cable for connecting the encode module to the stereo socket.
• 1 x Composite Video & Audio lead for connecting the Atari to your television.

Unlike other available mod kits this kit requires no cutting of traces or any other deconstruction of the Atari's original circuitry and is therefore totally reversable should you wish to return the system to it's original state

Fitting is fairly simple for anyone competent with using a soldering iron.  The encoder module needs to be soldered directly to the pins of the TIA chip on the Atari 2600, using care not to bridge any connections with stray strands of solder.  You then attach the length of screen cable to connect the encoder module with the stereo socket.  The stereo socket can be mounted anywhere convenient on the case, but we would recommend that it is mounted at the rear of the case, drilling a small hole for accessing the socket.
