This is a kit to build a dual 9 way D joystick interface for the Commodore PET and Mini PET Userport.
This is constructed with through hole parts (included). The diodes are used to generate the fire signals, and the resistors protect the userport if it is configured as an output.
The value read is the position information from a standard Commodore / Atari style joystick with the usual pinout:
- 1 = Up
- 2 = Down
- 3 = Left
- 4 = Right
- 5 = N/C
- 6 = Fire
- 7 = N/C
- 8 = GND
- 9 = N/C
There is no power on the userport of the PET, so no autofire etc.
The value is read from port E841 (59457), and is best calculated using 255-PEEK(59457).
The values returned from this are as follows:
- 0x01 (1) = Port 1 Up
- 0x02 (2) = Port 1 Down
- 0x04 (4) = Port 1 Left
- 0x08 (8) = Port 1 Right
- 0x03 (3) = Port 1 Fire
- 0x10 (16) = Port 2 Up
- 0x20 (32) = Port 2 Down
- 0x40 (64) = Port 2 Left
- 0x80 (128) = Port 2 Right
- 0x30 (48) = Port 2 Fire
The Piezo is wired to pin CB2, as used in games such as Space Invaders. The Piezo is not required for Mini PETs or PET/CBM 4000/8000s as they already have an internal Piezo sounder. - see other listing for a version without the Piezo. Some of the photos show the version without the Piezo.
This listing is for the PCB and all parts. (no PETs, Mini PETs or joysticks are included)
See my other listings for PCB only and assembled versions.
